AN EASY GUIDE to Paper Print Sizes | WHAT 'A' SIZE WALL ART DO YOU NEED FOR YOUR HOME?
If you're slightly baffled by print sizing, you're not alone. Thankfully, our designers, Mark & Shell, know paper sizes by the millimetre. If you're planning a gallery wall, here's a good place to start...
Here at Coulson Macleod, most of our art prints & giftware are either square (23 x 23cm) or they follow the 'A series' sizing method. A3, A4, A5 etc. Also known as ISO or International Standards Organisation sizing. Basically, the bigger the number, the smaller the print. We're not sure who came up with that logic either.
The prints halve in size each time - from the gigantic A0 to the teeny tiny A10.
Here are the sizes that we mostly use:
A3 - 420 x 297mm
A perfect poster print size. A trio of complementary A3 prints would look fantastic on a feature living room wall.
A4 - 297 x 210mm
Perhaps the most widely recognised paper size in the world. A4 is (you guessed it) half of A3. Most letters you receive & documents you print will probably be A4.
A5 - 210 x 148mm
We love this print size. Great to display in smaller spaces & fairly unobtrusive - making it a safe bet when gifting artwork to your family members or friends. Perhaps for a special occasion such as a new baby or wedding.
A6 - 148 x 105mm
Petite. Incredibly cute. Mostly used for inspirational 'quote cards'. Our popular 'Precious Metals' greeting cards & 'Wise Words' notebooks are also A6 size. Perfect for popping in your bag.
Not exactly the best size for eye-catching wall decor. Unless displayed with a thick gallery mount or in a charming brass frame like these beautiful, antique pieces from Nkuku:
That's the 'A series' in a nutshell, folks. Don't get us started on photographic prints, the 'B series', the 'C series' (usually used for envelopes) & North American paper sizes. Blimey!
