Team Member Spotlight: Hannah
A few weeks ago we introduced our new studio assistant, Michelle. We asked her a series of fun questions, both work and life related, so that you could learn a little bit about the people behind Coulson Macleod.
Continuing on that same vein... Say hello to Hannah! The 'Macleod' half of the business. With a background in PR and copywriting she looks after the trade accounts, customer enquiries and loves a bit of social media.
She also drinks an awful lot of tea. Which Mark makes.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
Now that Mark and I have started back at the gym (urgh!) we’re the last ones to arrive at the studio, usually around 9:30am. The mornings are normally spent inputting trade orders that have come in overnight from our agents or via our website into Xero (a cloud-based accounting software) so I can print the orders out to be packed. Then I book packed orders in with the couriers for an early afternoon collection.
The afternoons are spent updating or adding online listings onto Etsy or Not On The High Street or adding products onto our Facebook VIP Group, where members can buy one-off products.
I also run a daily giveaway on our Facebook page so I keep an eye on that, ‘liking’ comments and picking a winner at lunchtime.
How would you describe Coulson Macleod in three words?
Less is more.
What's your favourite Coulson Macleod product?
Our rose-gold foiled concertina cards. When we have them all displayed at trade shows I feel super proud having a product that is so unique and so beautiful.
It’s a real head turner; when people walk past our trade show stand and comment, “I don’t sell cards but just wanted to say they are lovely” you know you have something special.

Before working at Coulson Macleod, what was the most unusual or interesting job you ever had?
I worked for a small PR company in Hong Kong run by two very inspirational women. Our clients were mainly in the luxury goods market so I attended some pretty swanky events over the years.
I took William Asprey (yep, of Asprey London the jewellers) on a tour of Hong Kong island in chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce, and I was always asked to be the MC from restaurant openings, fashion shows, to my biggest event standing on the stage of the newly-opened Hong Kong Convention Centre for the World Trade Organisation’s annual gathering; where my opening address was in Mandarin in front of a few thousand attendees. Gulp!

Favourite travel destination?
I don’t have a favourite place per se; you can’t compare the States to Japan for instance yet I’ve experienced pretty memorable things in both.
However, the three volcanic crater lakes in Flores, Indonesia, were pretty spectacular as each lake is a different colour and apparently they’ve changed colour over the years. I stayed up there long after the other backpackers had left and got to marvel in their beauty all on my own.

Who would you invite to a dinner party?
Easy; any explorer whose books line my shelves.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Mark Shand, Levison Wood (I’ve been to all of their talks and swooned), Eric Newby, Christina Dodwell.
I’d just sit and listen and marvel at their adventures. Our middle child, Jake, always buys me a book by a travel writer for my birthday or Christmas as he knows it’s a safe bet.
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Anything with fresh herbs in it; the smell of basil makes me very happy.
What is one fun fact about you?
I grew up on a narrow boat.
